How to Make Restaurant-Style Sambar in 15 Minutes

How to Make Restaurant-Style Sambar in 15 Minutes

A step-by-step guide to a rich, aromatic sambar using our traditional Sambar Powder — with tips to adjust spice and salt to your taste.

Traditional South Indian sambar gets its depth from a well-balanced spice blend and a little patience. Here is our simple, no-fuss method using 3A Podis Sambar Powder.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup toor dal, cooked soft
  • Mixed vegetables (drumstick, brinjal, pumpkin)
  • 2-3 tbsp 3A Podis Sambar Powder (adjust with the free salt & chilli sachet)
  • Tamarind extract, a small lemon-sized ball
  • Salt to taste
  • For tempering: mustard seeds, curry leaves, a pinch of asafoetida, 2 tsp oil

Method

  1. Cook the mixed vegetables in tamarind water until just tender.
  2. Add the cooked dal and 3A Podis Sambar Powder, and simmer for 8-10 minutes.
  3. Adjust salt and spice using the mini-sachet included in your pack.
  4. Finish with a tempering of mustard seeds, curry leaves, and asafoetida in hot oil.

Serve hot with steamed rice, idli, or dosa.
